HEAD Padel Rackets

HEAD is one of the most trusted brands in padel worldwide. Not only because top players such as Arturo Coello play with it, but because HEAD has been investing for decades in technology that truly makes a difference, from materials and weight balance to surface structure. At PadelShop.com, we specialize in padel and nothing else. That is why we do not just give you a product overview here, but real knowledge to help you make the right choice.

Which HEAD padel racket suits you? Choose by level

Beginner: Control and comfort above all

If you are just starting out in padel, your best friend is a large sweet spot and a light racket. Your technique is still developing, which means you will not always hit the ball in the center of the racket. A forgiving racket compensates for that.

For beginners, we recommend HEAD rackets with a soft core and a weight between 340–360 grams. The soft core, often EVA Soft or Comfort Foam in HEAD rackets, absorbs vibrations and protects your arm.

Suitable HEAD series for beginners: Gravity Team Light, Coello Vibe, Radical Team Light

Intermediate: The balance between control and power

Intermediate players already have technique, but want to expand their game with more variety, spin, and power. At this level, the teardrop shape becomes interesting: the sweet spot is slightly higher than in round models, which gives more power without completely sacrificing control.

The weight can be slightly higher; 355–370 grams is ideal for most intermediate players. Also pay attention to the balance point: a medium/high balance gives you more feel and stability in defensive play without losing maneuverability.

Suitable HEAD series for intermediate players: Radical Motion, Speed Motion, Extreme Motion, Coello Team

Advanced: Power, spin, and precision

Advanced players know exactly where and how they want to hit the ball. At this level, the diamond shape comes out on top: the sweet spot is high in the racket, giving smashes and attacking shots maximum power. The downside: it requires good technique, because outside the sweet spot the racket feels far less forgiving.

Weight plays a deliberate role here. Many advanced players choose 365–375 grams for extra mass and power. The balance point in these models is high (head-heavy), which contributes to hitting power but also puts more strain on the wrist and elbow, something to be mindful of.

Suitable HEAD series for advanced players: Coello Pro, Extreme Pro, Speed Pro, Radical Pro

Balance point: the difference between control and power

The balance point of a padel racket indicates where the racket’s center of gravity lies, measured in millimeters from the handle. This has a direct influence on how the racket feels and on the strain placed on your body.

Low balance (below ~255 mm): The weight is closer to the handle. This gives more control, faster reaction time, and less strain on the wrist and elbow. Ideal for defensive players and players who are prone to injuries.

Medium balance (255–265 mm): The golden middle ground. Suitable for most intermediate players: enough power for attacking shots, enough control for defensive play.

High balance (above ~265 mm): The weight is high in the racket. This significantly increases hitting power, but also increases the strain on your arm, wrist, and elbow. Only recommended for technically strong players with solid stroke technique.

Weight: not too light, not too heavy, and women choose differently

The weight of a padel racket has a direct impact on both your playing performance and your risk of injury. Most HEAD rackets weigh between 340 and 375 grams, but the ideal choice differs from player to player.

Women: Generally advised to choose between 340–360 grams. A lighter racket requires less muscle strength, reduces the risk of overloading the wrist and shoulder, and provides faster reactions at the net. Many women who play with a racket that is too heavy develop elbow or shoulder complaints without knowing why.

Men (recreational to intermediate): Generally 355–370 grams, enough mass for power, but not so heavy that technical mistakes are punished with injuries.

Men (advanced/competitive): 365–375 grams for maximum hitting power, provided that technique and fitness support it.

Expert advice from PadelShop: A racket that is too heavy for your level is one of the most common causes of padel injuries. Elbow pain (similar to tennis elbow), wrist complaints, and shoulder pain are in many cases triggered or worsened by a racket that does not match the player’s strength or technique. Are you playing with a racket that is too heavy or too head-heavy without the right technique? Then your arm is under structurally excessive strain.

Face profile: smooth, 3D rough, or sandpaper?

The face profile determines how much grip the racket surface has on the ball, and therefore directly how much spin you can generate.

Smooth (plain): Standard fiberglass or carbon surface. Gives less spin, but more control and consistency. Ideal for players who value precision and placement over spin. Most HEAD Gravity, Radical, and Speed models have a smooth surface.

3D Rough (textured): The surface has a relief structure that holds the ball slightly longer on contact. This generates significantly more spin, making your shots more dangerous. The HEAD Extreme and Coello Pro series use this technology.

Sandpaper / Sand coating: The roughest surface available. Maximum spin, but also the most wear. Suitable for advanced players who use spin as a primary weapon.

The technologies behind HEAD rackets

Graphene 360+ distributes carbon fibers throughout the entire frame, resulting in less vibration, more stability, and better energy transfer, even on off-center hits.

Auxetic Technology is based on a material that expands on impact instead of contracting. This increases the effective hitting area, provides more feel, and creates a trampoline effect that gives the ball extra speed.

Comfort Foam / EVA Soft in the core absorbs vibrations on impact. This protects your arm and increases playing comfort without sacrificing power.
