AgustÃn Tapia's all-round signature racket returns for 2027 with a new multilayered core, a lighter balance in the swing, and the same 12K Alum Xtrem aluminized carbon face. We measured both models at PadelShop.com on our Wilson Baiardo Tune Pro.
On the spec sheet the NOX Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2027 and the 2026 share almost everything: the same 12K Alum Xtrem aluminized carbon face with 50% less fibre waviness than standard 12K, the same Dual Spin surface with silica sand finish, the same Weight Balance system in the handle, the same Tapia signature. What has changed sits on the inside: a new MLD Black EVA core instead of the HR3 Black EVA of the 2026, paired with a refined weight distribution. Our measurement on the Wilson Baiardo Tune Pro shows exactly how that translates to feel on court.
How we measure
Every NOX racket that enters PadelShop.com is measured on our Wilson Baiardo Tune Pro before it leaves the shop. That gives us two objective numbers per racket instead of the marketing language brands use themselves. Together with the balance and the total weight, these two numbers are the knobs that decide how attacking or defensive a racket feels. The shape of the racket decides where the sweet spot sits on the face, not how aggressive the racket is.
Hardness (our scale 50 to 75)
How stiff the core feels on impact. Softer cores let the ball sink deeper into the face for more control and comfort, harder cores push the ball back faster for more power and a more direct response.
Swingweight (our scale 140 to 185)
How heavy the racket feels while you are swinging it. A lower swingweight makes the racket faster in the swing and more defensive in character because you can react quickly. A higher swingweight makes the racket more attacking because there is more mass behind every shot.
Our measurement per racket
NOX Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2026
Soft. HR3 Black EVA core with high memory effect, firmer feel on impact than the 2027 for a more direct response on power shots.
Maneuverable with mass behind the shot. Sits in the lower half of the maneuverable range but 11 points higher than the 2027, which translates to more weight behind every ball.
NOX Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2027
Very soft. The new MLD Black EVA multilayered core lets the ball sink a touch deeper into the face for a softer response and extra comfort on the arm.
Very maneuverable. Balance close to the handle. Fast in the swing, quick at the net, easy on the arm during long sessions.
What you feel in the first swing
NOX Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2026
Firm and planted. The HR3 Black EVA core returns the ball with a solid consistent response and the higher swingweight puts more mass behind each shot, which gives a confident feel on the smash and the vibora. The classic all-round Genius character with a touch more attacking bite.
NOX Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2027
Snappy and light in the head. The new MLD Black EVA multilayered core softens the response on impact, the ball sinks a fraction deeper into the face, and the lower swingweight makes the racket want to move with your hand. One of the fastest and most comfortable rackets in the Luxury Series.
What has stayed the same
Before we go into what has evolved, everything below is identical on both models. This is why the Genius line stays recognisable from one season to the next.
- Shape: teardrop
- Weight range: 360 to 375 grams
- Thickness: 38 mm
- Face: 12K Alum Xtrem aluminized carbon fibre with 50% less fibre waviness than standard 12K
- Surface: Dual Spin (3D texture with silica sand finish)
- Weight Balance system: interchangeable 2 gram and 4 gram counterweights up to 8 grams total, adjustable without tools
- EOS Tunnel: lateral perforations for airflow through the head
- Oversize Grip: 30 mm extended handle for two-handed backhands
- Signature player: AgustÃn Tapia
The 12K Alum Xtrem aluminized carbon face is worth highlighting on its own. The aluminium finish keeps the carbon stiff and consistent across temperature changes, so cold winter mornings and warm summer afternoons give you the same feel on the ball. For players who spend a lot of time on outdoor courts, that temperature stability is one of the main reasons to choose a NOX aluminized carbon face over a standard carbon face.
Where the NOX Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2027 has evolved
This generation brings a real material change, not just a rebalanced head. The 2026 was built around the HR3 Black EVA core, a high-density multilayered foam with strong memory effect that NOX positioned as "intermediate-hard" in feel. For 2027 NOX has replaced that core with the new MLD Black EVA, a multilayered EVA with variable density across the layers. Our measurement picks up the shift: hardness drops from 62 to 60 on our scale, which is the move from the soft band into the very soft band. The ball sits a fraction longer on the face, dampening is better, and the arm feels fresher after long matches.
On top of the new core, NOX has refined the internal weight distribution. The Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2027 carries the same total weight range as the 2026 but the balance point sits closer to the handle, which is what our Wilson Baiardo picks up as a lower swingweight. In practice that means a more defensive-oriented character out of the box: faster at the net, easier to react with on volleys and quick exchanges. The Weight Balance system rewards this evolution: add up to 8 grams through the counterweight slot in the handle and you shift the character back towards a more attacking feel, or leave it off for the lightest and most reactive setup.
How they play on court
At the net
The Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2027 shines in reactive exchanges. The lower swingweight gives you more time between shots, which pays off on quick blocks, defensive volleys, double vibora rallies and switches between defence and attack. The Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2026 responds with its own strength: when a ball sits up for you, the extra mass behind the shot turns that volley into a heavier ball for your opponent.
On the smash
The Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2026 carries the natural advantage here through more mass behind the shot and a firmer core. The Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2027 still finishes points well and rewards a full technical swing, and thanks to the Weight Balance system you can add up to 8 grams of head weight yourself to bring more mass into the smash while keeping the base racket faster in the swing.
On vibora and bandeja
The Dual Spin surface is unchanged so the grip on the ball is identical on both models. The Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2027 generates spin through faster head acceleration thanks to the lower swingweight. The softer MLD Black EVA core gives you a fraction more dwell time on the ball for a cleaner spin bite.
From the back of the court
Both rackets defend comfortably. The Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2027 asks less of the wrist on recovery swings under pressure thanks to the softer core and lower swingweight, which pays off in the third set when your arm starts to feel the match. The Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2026 feels more planted when you have time to load a big defensive shot.
Comfort through long sessions
This is the biggest practical shift between the two generations. The Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2027 is noticeably friendlier for players who feel padel elbow starting or who play multiple matches per week. The new MLD Black EVA core absorbs impact better than the firmer HR3 Black EVA, and the lower swingweight reduces the load on the wrist and elbow on every swing. This is one of the strongest reasons the 2027 has become the recommended choice for players stepping up into the Genius line.

Our recommendation
For the vast majority of players stepping into the Genius line today, the NOX Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2027 is the racket to go for. The new MLD Black EVA core is softer and more comfortable than the HR3 Black EVA of the 2026, the balance sits closer to the handle for a faster more defensive-friendly swing, and the Weight Balance system still lets you dial in head weight if you want more attacking punch on the smash. You get the flexibility of two characters in one racket plus the latest core technology in the NOX Luxury Series.
The NOX Genius 12K Alum Xtrem 2026 remains a strong alternative for players who specifically prefer the firmer HR3 Black EVA response and the extra mass behind their shots. If you already play the 2026 and love it, there is no reason to change. If you are choosing between them for the first time, the 2027 is our recommendation.
