No chafing under the armpits after two sets, no sticking to your back at high humidity in an indoor hall, no restriction on a bandeja or smash. What a padel shirt needs to do

• Moisture-wicking: first requirement. Polyester blends move sweat to the outside of the fabric where it evaporates faster. Cotton shirts absorb sweat and stay wet. Unusable for padel.
• Stretch in shoulders and sides: 5 to 10 percent elastane in the fabric gives freedom of movement on smashes and lobs without losing fit.
• Length just over the hips: not shorter, otherwise the shirt rides up on every lunge. Not longer, because it gets in the way.
• Flat seams: under the armpits and on the shoulders. Chafing seams cause irritation and blisters after an hour of intensive play.
• Short sleeve, long sleeve or sleeveless

Short sleeve is the standard for padel. For colder indoor courts or for outdoor padel in spring and autumn a long sleeve can help. Sleeveless shirts are less common for men but available for those who want maximum shoulder freedom and airflow in warmer weather.

Care
